Oklahoma is a state full of wondrous vistas and gorgeous natural landscapes. Whether you want to go on a romantic getaway or just need to take a break from your daily routine and experience something fresh, there are plenty of options for you to explore. Mountains, waterfalls, hills, and mountains – Oklahoma has everything. You can look at a map and set off on your own adventure. However, if such a prospect seems a bit intimidating, then you can start with our mini-guide to some of the Sooner State’s most beautiful places.

Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge

This grandiose nature spot in Lawton boasts more than 59,000 acres of territory characterized by green and golden seas of prairie and mountains as old as time. Bring your binoculars and your sunhat and watch for bison herds, prairie dogs, bobcats, coyotes, and other fascinating wildlife. For a stunning panoramic view of the park, hike to the top of Mount Scott. Your breath will be taken away, guaranteed.

Quartz Mountain Resort

If you want something a little bit cozier, perhaps for a romantic retreat with your better half, then make a reservation at this resort located between Lake Altus-Lugert and the Wichita Mountains. You will still find the peace and solitude you desire, but without having to rough it. The lodge furnishings are quaint and the restaurant menu is delectable. The lake acts as the glimmering centerpiece of the resort during the day and you are bound to see an ocean of stars in the sky at night.

Natural Falls State Park

There’s an idyllic oasis in northeastern Oklahoma where an amazing 77-foot waterfall displays its splendor to wide-eyed visitors. You can also find 17 different fern varieties, pretty native flowering trees, and other flora that thrive in mists of the waterfall. Camp sites are available. Bring some good food and drink and relax with your friends and family. If you want something more active, there are plenty of rugged trails for you to conquer.

Black Mesa Area

Take a trip to the farthest northwest corner of Oklahoma to the region known as the panhandle area. There you will find the state’s highest point at 4,973 feet on the Black Mesa plateau. Hoof it to the top and you’ll be rewarded with a one-of-a-kind view of the tri-state area. Then visit the nature preserve that’s close by and keep your eyes peeled for golden eagles, black bears, and other majestic animals that reside in the picturesque fields dotted with blue sage.
